The creation of a Greenway triangle between Castlebar, Newport and Westport, to allow tourists and visitors more options when visiting the area, is to be assessed by Mayo County Council.
At last week’s meeting of Castlebar Municipal District, a proposal by Cllr. Lisa Chambers to extend the new Turlough to Castlebar greenway directly to Newport was unanimously adopted.
Said Cllr. Chambers ” By linking the towns of Castlebar and Newport by greenway, we would be creating a Greenway triangle which would give more options to visitors. The development could be carried out at the same time as the proposed Castlebar to Westport Greenway.”
Cllr. Chambers said the development would allow Castlebar to benefit even further from the Greenway project, with tourists having the additional option to come directly from Newport to Castlebar and on to the Museum of Country Life.
She has asked that an assessment and full costings be prepared as soon as possible for presentation to members of the council.
