€50M. HARDSHIP FUND WILL HELP THIRD LEVEL STUDENTS, SAYS CHAMBERS

Senator Lisa Chambers has welcomed a new hardship fund as a “lifeline”
for third level students who have been financially hit by Covid.

The €50m. one – off fund will provide financial assistance to
full-time students to help them cope with income lost because of
Covid.

“This fund will help students who cannot get part-time work because of
Covid, and who will struggle to stay in college this year” said
Senator Chambers.

She said that the impetus for the fund had come from the Fianna Fail
Seanad group, who had met with Minister McGrath and pressed on him the
need to provide for third level students who will find it hard to
continue their studies this year.

Senator Chambers also said that the income threshold to qualify for
the post-graduate grant will raise from €30,000 to €54,000.
