Senator Lisa Chambers from Mayo welcomes the Action plan publication that was brought in on Monday the 28th of June by the Minister for further and higher education, Simon Harris.

This publication highlights higher education institutions action plans. The action plans are aimed at ending sexual violence and harassment on campuses around Ireland.

Lisa Chambers stated ” This publication is incredibly important as it addresses sexual harassment and violence that should not be occurring on campus grounds”.

Under the publication, the different institutions detail what it intends to do in this area and the institutions must report to the higher education authority every year.

Lisa Chambers stated “15% of women between the ages of 18-74 have experienced physical or sexual violence in their life. This needs to stop”.

Ms.Chambers continued ” it is vital that students from Mayo who travel across the country to attend higher level institutions feel safe and secure in a learning environment. I hope that by having an action plan in place, it will alleviate all forms of sexual violence and harassment on campus grounds”.
