Fianna Fáil Senator, Lisa Chambers, has welcomed the announcement of significant funding for capital works at Mayo General Hospital of €2.6 million.
“As part of the ongoing upgrade of facilities at Mayo General Hospital, the Minister for Health has announced €2.6 million for four capital projects at the hospital. These works include:

  • €100,000 for expansion of the Emergency Department and Medical Assessment Unit;
  • €2.1M for an electrical upgrade;
  • €30,000 for reconfiguration and upgrade of the Hospital Sterile Services Department;
  • €100,000 for the preparation of a Development Control Plan.”

“In addition, funding of €20,000 has been approved for the refurbishment of two High Support Community Residences, An Coilin and Teach Aisling, to facilitate the appropriate accommodation of nine residents in three units. This is hugely important for the improvement of services and conditions for residents with complex needs.”
“These projects are essential upgrades to allow the hospital to continue to provide the best service for patients. The funding allocated represents significant investment in the hospital, in particular the electrical works which is a major job costing more than €2 million.”
“It is very welcome to see this level of funding coming to the hospital for key projects to improve patient access and patient care.”
